THE HIGGS FIELD AND THE HIGGS BOSON PARTICLE

The people who started this theory were Mr Peter Higgs in 1964 together with five others, Robert Brout, Francis Englert, Gerald Guralnik, C.Richard Hagen and Tom Kibble and their theory was embraced by other theoretical physicists over the years the followed. In 2013 the existence of the Higgs Boson was "tentatively proven" by physicists using the Large Hadron Colider in Switzerland. The search for this particle was rumoured to have cost in excess of $30 billion US dollars.

Theory is approximately as follows. In a place where there is no Higgs field, an object thrown at the speed of light would continue forever at the speed of light ( because without the HF it would have no mass ).
On our planet ( where there is in theory an existing Higgs field (HF)) if we threw a stone at the speed of light ( impossible at the time of writing ) then it would slow down due to the effects of the friction of the HF and that object having a mass caused by the HF..

Basically they claim it is like a thick gloop that is everywhere in our atmosphere in the same way that the sea is everywhere if you happen to be a fish. Testing to find this particle was a very long procedure and it was done very slowly by process of elimination as testing various weights of particles requires different test procedures.

The mass of the Higgs Boson particle was stated to be between 125 and 127 GeV/c2. Physicists stated this was one of the hardest masses to detect. In comparison the Omega minus particle which was suggested to exist by Murray Gell-Man in 1962 and later found at the Brookhaven particle accelarator in New York by Nicholas Samios and Yuval Ne'eman and others two years later, had a mass of 1675 GeV/c2, and a strangeness of -3. Samios had previously discovered the existance of the cascade star particle around 1961-2 with a strangeness of -2 and a smaller mass of 1530. Strangeness is defined as the number of times it can decay into another form of particle. Strangeness 0 implies that a particle cannot decay further back to become something else.

The Higgs Boson was dubbed as "the god particle" because it is supposed to be everywhere and very hard to detect. If one adds this theory to the pieces of other knowledge one aquires on strange subjects such as quantum teleportation, then it adds another angle or means to answer the impossible questions that we humans do not easily understand.
EG In quantum teleportation two atoms or photons which were previously quantum entangled can be made to copy the movements of each other up to a distance of 89 miles without being connected by anything that a human can detect. Now imagine this HF is observing and detecting all that happens within it and provides an instant method of communication between particles, then one can imagine at least up to a point, how this QT is possible in theory.

Other theories such as telepathy, where a parent or child claims to know by instinct if the other is in trouble or sick ( without contacting them ) can be "partially explained" by adding the HF to the equation. There could be in theory some telepathic communication between them via the HF, although this is not yet proven.

On a more practical note it is easier to understand the claim that particles entering the HF obtain mass by doing so and particles not contained in any HF do not have a mass. There are other points raised such as violations of symmetry, but it is doubtful to me at least that any perfect symmetries actually exist in any part of nature. Most things seem to have an imperfect symmetry but not identical.

Later observations and reports from the LHC at CERN were of minor dissapointment as they stated this particle did NOT explain the unknown phenomenons of dark matter, dark energy or super symmetry. Also it was stated that the HB particle could decay back into regular particles such as photons, electrons and fermions. However they were pleased to confirm that the HB particle WAS responsible for giving mass to everything.

Anyone who finds this hard to understand does not have any cause for concern as even the great physicist Richard P Feynman said once that nobody understands quantum physics. Perhaps in a few hundred years they will understand it enough to teach us in school.
